There are tangible ways for all of us to address the climate crisis. Individuals, families, companies, organizations, communities can do a lot to affect the climate. The more we exhibit concern, the more our collective efforts – protests, petitions – will get others to act.

There are 5 people sitting on a bench at an event clapping. Four of them appear to be seniors, and one of them is a younger man with a hat and long beard. The man in the middle is whistling.

Seniors for Climate MB has put together a list of things you can do:

  • Live a 4R’s Lifestyle – adopt an environmental attitude
  • Green audits – then divest banking, investments and savings
  • Vote mindfully – which candidates have the strongest climate policies?
  • Thank mother nature – give green gifts
  • Reduce energy  – renovate and reduce living cost
  • Phase out plastics – from bags to bottles to building materials
  • Treat Yourself – eat local, be healthy, reduce transport fuel costs
  • Join the wave – support local and national organizations

A variety of organizations are contributing to a green and healthy future. Some conduct research into the climate crisis. Others raise awareness through documentations, public presentations and outreach to schools. Some mobilize collective action to change government policies and corporate practice to change the use of energy.

Here are a few organizations and campaigns that deserve our support – financial, voluntary and political. Contact them and offer what you can.

October 1st is International Day of Older Persons (UN) and National Seniors Day (Canada). Events across Canada will give seniors an opportunity to demonstrate their concern about the environment and to show what they are doing about it. In Manitoba, a Climate Action EXPO will resource seniors to take on climate action.
